you know, back before i went to art school, watercolour seemed easy... you get some water, wet the paint, paint it on... after i read books on techniques and learned how supposedly difficult it was... well... stick to the basics, really 
as for the acrylics... art school didn't actually teach me to paint. they kept trying to teach me how to get ideas, but there was no practical methodology or working technique. i learned that from books ;X
